CORONASTEP Report 96 (Week 37) SARS-CoV-2 Sewage Surveillance in Luxembourg

This report 96 presents the results of SARS-CoV-2 contamination of wastewater at the entrance of the 13
wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) analysed during the week 37 of 2021. The WWTPs of Hespérange,
Boevange were analysed only once this week.
The SARS-CoV-2 RNA flux measured in WWTPs this week still shows a high national prevalence of the virus,
with a SARS-CoV-2 flux between 5 and 9 x 1011 RNA copies per day per 100,000 equivalent-inhabitants. The
first sampling carried out at the beginning of the week highlighted a significant increase of the SARS-CoV-2 level
in comparison to the previous week, while this was not confirmed at the end of the week. However, the general
trend seems to be a slightly increase in the circulation of the virus in wastewater.
An overall similar pattern is observed for the different wastewater treatment plants analysed, with a slightly
increase detected for most of the wastewater treatment plants analysed, especially Beggen, Bettembourg.
Schifflange, Hespérange, Boevange, Uebersyren and Bleesbruck.
